Testimonial
Being a relatively new band in the Brisbane music scene, and in particular being an all original band, the opportunities to play live and showcase your music are rare to say the least.
In the current musical climate the majority of club owners seem to favor the use of dj's or cover bands to bring the patrons into the doors, and the venues that are open to showcasing original music aren't the most desirable places to play.
One of the key challenges that Cure to Burn found as an independent band was that gaining agency representation without the backing of a record label, airplay or distribution on a CD was virtually impossible.
How fantastic it is that a company like Pushworth Group has developed a program such as Gigahertz. After being made aware of the Sunday night showcases at bar 388, Cure to Burn booked their third ever show at this venue and had the opportunity to play in front of Andrew Lunt, one of Pushworth’s Booking Agents.
Since November of 2008 and that initial meeting with Andrew, Cure to Burn gained representation through Pushworth and has since had the opportunity to play at the Caxton St Seafood festival, Rosie’s on Edward st, and most recently played support for Cog on their Oceans Tour.
In the space of 6 months Cure to Burn went from playing weeknights in small venues in the suburbs to playing paid shows and supporting a national touring act. To achieve such milestones in such a short timeframe is truly a testament to the effectiveness of the Gigahertz business model and Andrew Lunts dedication to nurturing and developing original music in Brisbane.
The Gigahertz nights are a great example of not only what opportunities are available to talented original musicians in Brisbane who are looking to get thier music heard, its also a testament to the fact that original music in Brisbane venues does translate into getting payers in the door.
The Gigahertz shows have been replicated in a number of venues around Brisbane all in varying degrees of size and location, and all of which prove that the people make the show and the venues who are willing to showcase original music really differentiate themselves from the competition and capitalise upon an entirely new type of clientele.
